What can I say about Honor? I wrote the first draft within two months back in 2003. While many things have changed from that first draft, the meat of the story remains unchanged.
It takes place in the latter part of 1815, after Waterloo, after the peace celebrations, etc. None of these factor greatly into the story. The hero is not a soldier, never was a soldier, and never wanted to be a soldier. His father wanted him to, of course, and as the younger son it was the logical future for him. But that's for another post.
Honor begins with the heroine, Verena, fleeing her home in the middle of the night. She seeks to escape the marriage her father's arranged for her. Some Regency experts would say this was an unlikely thing to happen. Arranged marriages, after all, were the norm in Regency England. Verena would have accepted her father's plans for her and planned for her wedding.
The problem with Verena lies buried in her past, a past shrouded in pain and humiliation. Despite the normality of an arranged marriage, panic takes over, propelling her to escape.
So what is Honor about? Simply, Verena's determination to overcome the past that holds her captive. She falls in love with Lord Connor Northwicke, younger son of the Duke of Denbigh, and marries him. But unlike the fairy tales...
Falling in love isn't enough.
